Who doesn’t love a shaker card? Especially one for Valentine’s Day! Today I’m sharing one of my latest cards using a Lawn Fawn set that I’ve had for a while, but had never used (as well as a few new bits and pieces).
So here is the stamp set that I’ve had for ages – “Screen Time”. It’s just so adorable, and instantly reminded me of back when my husband and I used to spend hours playing games together (those quiet, pre-children days that feel like a lifetime ago). I’ve always thought this set would make a great Valentine’s card but I’ve never had any layouts come to mind that got me motivated enough to use it.
This is the die that changed everything – Foursquare Backdrop: Portrait. I have had this die set on my wish list for ages, and with Christmas came gift cards! I was finally able to get my hands on it!
When this die set arrived I had so many ideas come to mind, and one was for the Screen Time stamps – finally!
Here are a few photos of how I used this die to create a thick base for my shaker. I used two layers of craft foam (I got this from Spotlight a while back) and glued them together. I also used a piece of white cardstock on top of the foam, I thought that maybe my final piece of cardstock and small pieces of acetate might adhere better to this than the foam, plus any extra layers were just bonus depth for my shaker items to move around.
On the table, behind my gluey foam, you can see that I have a plain white piece of card that I measured and cut to fit behind the foursquare die. I lined up my stamps from the Screen Time set in these little “windows” and gave everything a shading (and a few splatters) with some pink oxide ink.
Here is the back of the stamped windows and foam pieces once the glue had dried. As you can see, I made a few mistakes trialing which ink worked best (my red ink bled way too much and I had to settle on black). Luckily for me, I was able to hide all of these on the backside and still salvage the white card – I really don’t like being wasteful with any of my supplies!
I prepped the back with some double sided tape so that I was ready to adhere to a card base once the front of the shaker was complete.
I then added all of my shaker elements and my two adorable Screen Time characters! I just love the little hearts – these ones are Sparkletz by Buttons Galore.
I measured, cut and added some acetate pieces to my final piece of card stock after running my static powder tool over the shaker elements in the two shaker windows and glued everything into place, careful not to shake (although super tempting) to give the glue time to dry so nothing would get stuck on the inside of my windows.
I then set to work on decorating the front of the card, using my new “Scripty Love” die.
I cut two pieces of card with this die, one red and the other black. The red I made sparkly using my Wink of Stella pen and added some white lines. The black I glued behind, slightly off to make it look as though it has shadow – a technique that I really enjoy using at the moment!
I glued this piece onto the front of my foursquare window with a few extra hearts.
I’m so happy I finally found a use for this stamp set (now I don’t feel so bad for having it take up room in to my stamp storage!).
